The money will support the organization’s emergency meals program, which allows for 60-110 nutritious meals to be served to homeless men and young adults that come to Pacific House shelter each night.
In 2015, Pacific House emergency shelter served nearly 50,000 meals and provided 29,000 bed nights to homeless men and young adults from the community. The organization provides men with programs and services to help them as they work to better their lives. Case management, job placement an in-house recovery program and affordable housing are among a few of the services it offers. The vast majority of the shelter’s clients come from Stamford and its surrounding towns.
“We are grateful to the New Canaan Community Foundation for their continued generous support,” said Jim Bosek, board chairman of Shelter for the Homeless. “Grants like this one are essential to our ability to provide shelter and programs to men and young adults who are homeless in our community. When clients arrive at our door they are at their most vulnerable, and a wholesome meal provides a foundation from which they can work to rebuild their lives.”
Shelter for the Homeless was one of 73 local organizations that received a grant from the New Canaan Community Foundation. The total amount distributed totaled more than $668,000.
“Our donors care about providing safety net services across our region, for whoever may need them. So we are proud to support Pacific House in their efforts to shelter the homeless and provide programs and resources to facilitate their client’s transition to self-sufficiency,” said Cynthia Gorey, president and CEO of New Canaan Community Foundation.
